amos 7:17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

amos 7:17 "Therefore, thus says the LORD, 'Your wife will become a harlot in the city, your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be parceled up by a [measuring] line, and you yourself will die upon unclean soil. Moreover, Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.'"

17. Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city--that is, shall be forced by the enemy, while thou art looking on, unable to prevent her dishonor (Isa 13:16; La 5:11). The words, "saith THE LORD are in striking opposition to "Thou sayest" (Am 7:16).

a polluted land--Israel regarded every foreign land as that which really her own land was now, "polluted" (Isa 24:5; Jer 2:7).
