This mound is the site of the ancient city of Jericho, known today as Tell es-Sultan. It lies approximately one-mile to the northwest of modern Jericho in Israel. According to the Bible the walls of Jericho miraculously came tumbling down when Israel blasted their trumpets and shouted.Joshua 6:1 "now Jericho was shut up from within and from without because of the people of Israel; none went out, and none came in."
