Esdras is the Greek form of Ezra. This book is a compilation of passages from Ezra, II Chronicles and Nehemiah, with added legends about Zerubbabel. Its object was to picture the liberality of Cyrus and Darius toward the Jews as a pattern for the Ptolemies.
