Egypt Acts

Egypt Knew that War with the Assyrians was only a Matter of Time

The king of Egypt knew that her turn was coming soon. Out of desperation king Hoshea of Israel made an agreement with the Pharaoh of Egypt (So). When the Assyrian kjng Shalmaneser V heard of this he immediately gathered his army and assaulted the walls of Samaria. The besieged city was strong and held out for 3 long years, in fact Shalmaneser V died that year and one of his generals came to the throne. The general’s name was Sargon II.

Note: In 670 B.C. the Assyrian king Essarhaddon conquered Egypt and defeated Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia (II Kings 19:9).

The Bible records this transaction:

2 Kings 17:5 - "Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years."
