Tent

Although this is a picture of a modern tent in the middle eastern wilderness in Biblical times it was a little different. A tent was generally erected with sets of 3 poles, the longest poles were set up in a line down the center with the two shorter sets of poles on either side., and all were tied to one another with ropes. The canvas or fabric was stretched tightely over the top and made fast with "cords" (Jer 10:20) to "stakes" (Is 54:2) in the ground. These stakes were made of very hard wood, about 2 feet long, and were hammered into the ground (judg 4:21). The tent was covered with cloths woven from goats hair, which was black (song 4:1; 1:5).
