Map of Attica in Socrates and Plato's time

Nice map of Attica, Boeotia, and Euboea with their cities. Depending on the context, Athens may refer to the city of Athens proper, exclusive of its suburbs such as Piraeus, its main harbor, or the larger urbain area including such suburbs as Piraeus, or the whole of Attica, the territory of the "city-state", in which most of its citizens would live and own land, or even the whole of the Athenian empire that spread all through the Mediterranean, grew and shrunk over the years (the same could be said with little variation of all the "city-states" of ancient Greece, such as Sparta, Thebes, Corinth, etc.). Thus, what were called citizens of Athens, were in fact people living all through Attica, not necessarily in the city of Athens itself, though they all had to go there from time to time to accomplish their civic duties.

The Kingdom of Tyllis

Unified now, the Celts, formed a Kingdom, the "Kingdom of Tyllis" as it was named, which became so powerful that controlled even the city and the port of Byzantium. That Kingdom stayed in Celtic rule for almost 60 years, when Thracians deposed Canarus, the last Celt King in Thrace thus pushing them to Minor Asia. After this period, we have not historical record about any Celtic existence in Thrace. [Greek History Excerption]

The Inscriptions of Israel/Israel project seeks to collect and make accessible over the Web all of the previously published inscriptions (and their English translations) of Israel/Israel from the Persian period through the Islamic conquest (ca. 500 BCE - 640 CE). There are about 15,000 of these inscriptions, written primarily in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin, by Jews, Christians, and pagans. They range from imperial declarations on monumental architecture to notices of donations in synagogues to humble names scratched on ossuaries, and include everything in between.
