Renewing the Study of Scripture for a New Generation

The Word of God has been cherished, studied, and passed down through countless generations. From the days when Moses received the Law on stone tablets, to the early church gathering around the letters of the apostles, the study of Scripture has always been central to the life of God’s people. Yet every generation must rediscover it for themselves. In a time of digital distractions and shifting values, the call to renew our devotion to Scripture is more urgent than ever.

A Legacy of Learning

The Bible itself commands the faithful to study and remember God’s Word. In Deuteronomy 6:6–7, Moses tells Israel:

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road…”

From the beginning, studying Scripture was never meant to be a solitary or occasional act—it was to shape everyday life. The prophets, the psalmists, the apostles, and even Jesus Himself immersed themselves in the Scriptures, treating them not only as sacred writings but as the living voice of God.

Jesus and the Written Word

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, His response to the devil was not philosophical or emotional—He responded with Scripture: “It is written…” (Matthew 4:4). Christ affirmed the authority of God’s Word and modeled its importance in the life of every believer. His teachings constantly pointed back to the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms—He studied the Scriptures, and expected His followers to do the same.

A Call for Renewal

In our own day, we face a unique challenge. Though the Bible is more accessible than ever—available through apps, websites, audio, and print—it often goes unread. Many people today know more about cultural trends than the covenants of God. The church must ask: Are we forming a generation fluent in Scripture?

Renewing the study of the Bible means going beyond casual reading. It means:

  • Encouraging thoughtful engagement with the text

  • Teaching the context and meaning behind the verses

  • Modeling how to live the Word daily

  • Helping the next generation ask faithful questions and seek true understanding

Tools for Today

Just as the scribes once copied scrolls by hand, today’s disciples have access to powerful tools that can deepen biblical study. Websites, digital Bibles, commentaries, and study plans can bring clarity and insight. When used with wisdom and reverence, technology can serve the ancient goal: knowing God more deeply through His Word.

The Word That Endures

Isaiah 40:8 declares,

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

The same Scriptures that guided Abraham, David, Mary, and Paul are still speaking today. They carry the truth of salvation, the hope of Christ, and the wisdom of God. Now is the time to renew our commitment—to open the Word again, to teach it with passion, and to live it with conviction.

Let this generation be one that does not forget but remembers, studies, and walks in the Word of the Lord.
