In Greek mythology, Hypnos (Ὕπνος, "sleep") was the
personification of sleep; the Roman equivalent was known as
Somnus. His twin was Thánatos (Θάνατος, "death"); their mother
was the primordial goddess Nyx (Νύξ, "night"). His palace was
