Carmel Caves in Wikipedia
Misliya Cave, southwest of Mt. Carmel, has been excavated by
teams of anthropologists and archaeologists from the
Archaeology Department of the University of Haifa and Tel Aviv
University since 2001. In 2007, they unearthed artifacts
indicative of what could be the earliest known Homo Sapiens.
The teams uncovered hand-held stone tools and blades as well
as animal bones, dating to 250,000 years ago, at the time of
the Mousterian culture of Neanderthals in Europe. No human
skeleton has yet been found.[19]
