What is Samothracia?
        SAMOTHRA'CIA
        (Thracian Samos), an island in the north-eastern part of the AEgean Sea, and a conspicuous landmark to sailors. It is 8 miles long and 6 miles broad. Homer says that from its lofty ridges the battlefield of Troy might be seen, and one of its mountains has an elevation of 6248 feet, affording a wide view. Paul visited it on his first missionary journey. Acts 16:11. The island is still called Samoihraki, and contains from 1000 to 2000 inhabitants, subject to Turkey.
