What is Parthia?
        PAR'THIA
Originally a province of Media, on its eastern side, in the time of the apostles it had spread its sway from India to the Tigris, and from the Kharesem desert to the southern ocean. Seleucia was a chief city, and Ecbatana was its king's summer residence. Parthia was united to the Persian empire under Cyrus, b.c. 550. But in b.c. 256 it revolted and became an independent empire. At last, however, Parthia was conquered by the Persians and united to their empire, a.d. 226.
