What are Parchments?
        PARCH'MENTS
The skins of beasts were early and extensively used for writing; the lonians wrote upon sheep-skins five centuries before Christ. Very slight preparation was used, however, until under Eumenes, a king of Pergamos, a mode of producing a really fine material was discovered, whence the skins thus prepared were called by the Latins pergamena, which is translated "parchments." 2 Tim 4:13.
