Who is Cain?
        CAIN
(possession), the first-born of Adam and Eve. Gen 4:1. Welcomed as the promised deliverer, he disappointed his paients' dearest hopes and proved to be of a bad heart, for out of envy because his brother's sacrifice had been accepted and his own rejected, he slew his brother. See Abel. For this crime he was banished from his home. But God, remembering mercy in the midst of wrath, gave him some sign or mark whereby he would have protection from attacks likely to be made upon him as the accursed of God. He then went to the land of Nod, to the east of Eden; after the birth of his son Enoch (and perhaps other children), he began to build a city -- i. e. a village of rude huts, as distinguished from the movable tents of the nomads. Gen 4:16-17. See Nod.
