prince, or summit, a place "in the land of Ephraim" (Judg. 12:15), now Fer'on, some 10 miles south-west of Shechem. This was the home of Abdon the judge.

(princely), "in the land of Ephraim in the mount of the Amalekite," a place in #Jud 12:15| Its site, now called Fer'ata, is about one mile and a half south of the road from Jaffa, by Hableh, to Nablus. Pirathonites are mentioned in #Jud 12:13,15| and 1Chr 27:14

PIR'ATHON (princely), a place in Ephraim, the home and burial-place of Abdon, one of the judges of Israel. Jud 12:15. One of David's mighty men was a Pirathonite. 1 Chr 27:14; 1 Chr 11:31; 2 Sam 23:30. Robinson proposed Ferata, 6 miles from Shechem; the Pal. Memoirs suggest Feron, a hamlet on the edge of a plain, 10 miles west of Samaria, as its site.

In Ephraim "in the mount of the Amalekite" (who had an early settlement in the highlands) (Judges 12:15). The burial place of the judge Abdon, on a height six miles W. of Shechem (Nablus), now Fer'ata; or Fer'aun (Israel Exploration Quarterly Statement). Discovered by Hap-Parchi, an old traveler (Asher's Benj. of Tud. 2:426). David's eleventh captain for the eleventh month was of Pirathon, Benaiah of Ephraim (1 Chronicles 27:14).
