(grace or gift of God) (in Revised Version spelled JOANAN). 1. Son of Rhesa, according to the text of #Lu 3:27| and one of the ancestors of Christ; but according to the view explained in a previous article, son of Zerubbabel, and the same as HANANIAH in #1Ch 3:19| 2. The name of a woman, occurring twice in #Lu 8:3; 24:10| but evidently denoting the same person, (A.D. 28-30.) In the first passage she is expressly stated to have been "wife of Chuza, steward of Herod," that is, Antipas, tetrarch of Galilee.
