pekod in Easton's Bible Dictionary

probably a place in Babylonia (Jer. 50:21; Ezek. 23:23). It is the opinion, however, of some that this word signifies "visitation," "punishment," and allegorically "designates Babylon as the city which was to be destroyed."

pekod in Smith's Bible Dictionary

(visitation), an appellative applied to the Chaldeans. #Jer 50:21; Eze 23:23| Authorities are undecided as to the meaning of the term.

pekod in Schaff's Bible Dictionary

PE'KOD (visitation?), a symbolical name for Babylon. Jer 50:21. In Eze 23:23 it appears to be applied to a Chaldaean province. A Pekod is mentioned in the cylinder of Sennacherib as near the Hauran, and Lenormant thinks it was the collective name of several tribes in the Euphrates valley. The exact meaning of the term is not known. Some explain it as "visitation," "punishment," others as "perfect," "noble."

pekod in Fausset's Bible Dictionary

("visitation".) Jeremiah 50:21. Symbolical name for Babylon as doomed to be visited with judgment. In Ezekiel 23:23 simply a prefecture. Maurer translated, as descriptive epithets subjoined to "all the Chaldaeans," Pekod (pakid), Shoa, Koa, "prefects, rich, princely." Otherwise, if a symbolical name here also, Pekod is "inflicter of," "visiting with, judgment," namely, upon Judah, "Aholibah."
