gibbethon in Fausset's Bible Dictionary

("lofty place".) A town allotted to Dan (Joshua 19:44), afterwards to the Kohathite Levites (Joshua 21:23). As bordering on the Philistines, it was soon seized by them, probably when Jeroboam drove all the Levites from northern Israel to Judah. Nadab with all Israel, and afterward Omri, besieged it (1 Kings 15:27; 1 Kings 16:17). Baasha smote Nadab there.
