That which must necessarily happen. The Old Testament speaks of death as the common fate of humankind (Psalms 49:12; Psalms 81:15; Ecclesiastes 2:14; Ecclesiastes 3:19; Ecclesiastes 9:2-3). The Old Testament similarly speaks of violent death as the destiny of the wicked (Job 15:22; Isaiah 65:12; Hosea 9:13). See Election and Predestination.
