AT'ROTH (crowns), or ''Atroth-Shophan," as it should probably be read without the comma, "Shophan" being added to distinguish it from the "Ataroth" or "Atroth" in the former verse. It was a city of Gad, near Dibon. Num 32:35.
atroth in Fausset's Bible Dictionary
(Numbers 32:35.) City of Gad, named between Aroer and Jaazer. Shophall is appended to the name, and no comma should separate it from Atroth, to distinguish it from the neighboring Ataroth.
