ASTROL'OGERS Dan 2:27. A class of men who pretended to foretell future events by observing the motions of the heavenly bodies, which, until a comparatively late period, were supposed actually to influence human life. Star-worship prevailed among Eastern nations, and its priests were astrologers.

"Those who form combinations of the heavens," i.e. watch conjunctions and oppositions of the stars; "dividers of the heavens" (Gesenius). In casting a nativity they observed: (1) the horoscope, or sign which arose at birth, (2) the mid heaven, (3) the sign opposite the horoscope toward the W., and (4) the hypogee.
