Cos
        

Cos or Coos: now Stancho, a contraction of eis teen CHoa. Paul passed the night on this island on his way by sea from Miletus to Rhodes (Acts 21:1). It is N.W. of Rhodes; 25 miles long by 10 miles wide. The chief town was on the N.E. of the island, near the promontory Scandarium.
