Rehoboth (2)
        

One of the four cities built by Nimrod when he went forth to Asshur: Rehoboth Ir (i.e. "the streets of the city"), Calah, Resen, and Nineveh. (See NIMROD; ASSYRIA; NINEVEH.) The four were probably afterwards combined under the one name Nineveh; the words in Genesis 10:11-12, "the same is a great city," refer to the united whole, not to the single Resen.
