Nicodemus the Ruler

The Bible calls Nicodemus, "a ruler of the Jews", which indicates that he occupied a very prominent position in Jerusalem. Authorities recognize that this statement reveals that he was a member of the Sanhedrin, the council of 70 elders, and supreme governing court in Israel, and also a professional expert and master teacher of the law. Yet Nicodemus comes to Him privately, in the nighttime, to ask Jesus honest questions about His miracles and His mission, and acknowledging Him as a teacher who has come from God. Jesus chose to answer Nicodemus with stunning accuracy of what the prophets had spoken, and who He was, and what He truly came to accomplish.

"Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Him by night, and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You have come from God [as] a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." - John 3:1
