August/September (Vintage begins).

Neh 6:15; 1 Macc 14:27

6th month of the religious calendar.

12th month of the civil calendar.

Elul 1 – New Moon

This is the hottest month of the year, and even on the coast it is 90 degrees in the shade, and much hotter inland. During this month the grapes, figs, peaches, apples, and pears ripen.

As Elul immediately precedes the Days of Awe, it is a month of repentance.
